Improvements at the Water Board Office
The staff at the Yukon Water Board are pleased to announce that we have implemented some changes to help everyone participate in the water board process.
Effective immediately, all water use applications will be posted on our
website as soon as the application is determined to be adequate for public
review. Applications will be listed on the website by undertaking, and the
basic information will include the application number, applicant’s name,
water source, and the deadline for
submission of interventions. There will be a link to the complete
application.
By posting applications on line, the information will be immediately
available to everyone, instead of having to wait for our office to photocopy
and mail out copies.
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve efficiency, and minimize photocopying, we will also be changing our process for notifying various parties about applications.
Currently, we send complete copies of all applications to a wide distribution list. In response, we typically receive only one or two interventions.
We will no longer arbitrarily send complete copies of water use applications to everyone on our lists. We will, in the short term, provide those same parties with notice of applications, by sending you a paper copy of the advertisement. You can then go to the website and look at the application, or print it for review at a later time.
In the longer term, we would like to limit the notice of application to only those parties who want to receive it. And we’d like to send it in a way that works better for you.
Please complete the attached form and return it to our office by August 31, 2007 and we will try to accommodate your preferences for notification. We will assume that, if we don’t hear from you by August 31, then you prefer not to be notified of water use applications.
To comply with the notice requirements of Chapter 14 of the Umbrella Final Agreement, we will continue to send complete copies of applications to the First Nation in whose traditional territory the project is located, unless a First Nation asks to be notified by some other method.
